Solar prize for the Ebmatingen church
Built in 1989, the Roman Catholic church of St. Franziskus Ebmatingen is now emission-free after undergoing a renovation of its energy systems in 2018/19. Thanks to the significantly improved roof insulation, a solar-powered geothermal heat pump, the use of solar heating with 161 m2 of photovoltaic thermal modules and the economical LED lighting, the church’s previous total energy requirements have been reduced by around 35%. The old oil heater was torn out, saving 7,000 litres of heating oil annually and 21 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year. This flagship project was awarded both the Swiss and European Solar Prize 2019.
